Environment
We are proud to announce that we have made significant strides towards our net-zero emissions goals, approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). We have achieved a 25% reduction in Scopes 1 and 2 compared to 2018, and have achieved fossil fuel-free status at 20 sites, with 150 sites being powered by renewable electricity. This is an important milestone on our journey towards becoming a more sustainable company.
In an effort to promote environmentally-friendly product innovation, we have taken our Design for Sustainability program to a whole new level. Our dedicated colleagues are determined to provide customers with new solutions that will help them reach their business and sustainability goals. By expanding our program, we are making it easier than ever to incorporate sustainability into product development and design.
We are proud to fulfill our commitment to climate and nature by introducing near-term targets designed to tackle water scarcity and reduce waste. This is an important step in preserving our planet for future generations.
Colleagues
Since 2019, we have seen an impressive 5.9% global increase in the representation of women in our company’s workforce, with a staggering 9.3% growth in female executive management roles in the U.S. alone. This is a monumental step forward for our organization.
In order to ensure our colleagues have the necessary support in these uncertain times, we have taken steps to make special payments to offset the global impact of inflation and have also implemented a Behavioral Health Navigator platform to expand mental health coverage in the U.S. We are committed to meeting our colleagues’ evolving needs.
Communities
We have made a huge impact in the STEM education community by reaching 89,500 students around the world with our innovative programming. We have also held a record number of community events and our colleagues have donated an impressive 120,000 hours of volunteer service. To add to this, we have launched the Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge, the most respected STEM competition in the United States for middle school students.
Making a positive impact on global health equity, we have developed public-private partnerships in more than 100 low- and middle-income countries to save more lives and manage infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS. Through these partnerships, we are striving to ensure that everyone has access to the best in medical care, no matter their economic or social standing.
Operations
We’ve taken our responsible sourcing program to the next level, assessing half of our direct materials supply for ESG performance and granting a whopping $2 billion in awards to small and diverse suppliers. This has enabled us to provide even greater value to our customers.
The company is dedicated to reporting its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) progress in accordance with globally accepted standards and frameworks, such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards, the IFRS Foundation’s SASB Standards, the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). To further engage with its key stakeholders, the company additionally provides ESG data through CDP, EcoVadis, and its annual EEO-1 information.
